UK Lawyers Seek Chief Justice's Action To Halt Musharraf's Asset Transfer Efforts

Association of Pakistani Lawyers, an organization of Solicitors, Barristers and Judges in UK has called for a halt of General Musharraf’s efforts to sell his assets including his farm at Chak Shehzad Islamabad as that will frustrate efforts to compensate the victims and to recover fines and costs.

APL chairman Amjad Malik has written to Chief Justice on 12 October on the anniversary of his coup de tat and has requested the Chief Justice to take notice saying that, “APL raised this matter in their 30 August 2006 communication and thankfully this matter has come before the Chief Justice of Baluchistan who has issued notices to concerned including that of General Musharraf. General Musharraf has also been found guilty of subverting the constitution on the eve of 3 November 2007 when he issued a ‘Provisional Constitutional Order 2009’ thus making amendments on his own accord in the constitution and 31 July decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has settled the issue once for all that all actions were taken in breach of the order of 3 November 2007, a 7 members bench”.

Amjad Malik further demanded the Chief Justice that, “ We at the Association request the honorable Chief Justice to take notice of reports that the main accused of 3 November 2007 actions is planning to sell his assets i.e residence of Chak Shehzad and move them abroad, furthermore as he issued contemptuous PCO and he be issued contempt notice too in order to bring him before the court and explain why he disobeyed the order of the superior court of 3 November 2007. If the court does not stop his sale of assets, it will frustrate efforts to bring him to accountability and compensate the families of victims of his actions”.
